I was welcomed here ― clear gold
of late summer, of openning autumn,
the dawn eagle sunning himself on the highest tree.
the mountain revealing herself unclouded,her snow
tinted apricot as she looked west.
tolerant,in her steadfastness, of the restless sun
forever rising and setting.
Now I am given
a taste of the grey foretold by all and sundry,
I'm london-born. And I won't. I'll dig in,
into my days, having come here to live, not to visit.
Grey is the price
of neighboring with eagles,of knowing
a mountain's vast presense,seen or unseen.
定住して 寺島博之訳
ここでわたしは歓迎された―夏の終わりの、
秋の開幕の、澄み切った黄金色に、
夜明けの鷲はいちばん高い木の上で日にあたっている。
山は雲のない自分自身をあきらかにしている、その雪は
西に面しているの杏色に染まっており、
その確固たることで、永久に上りまた沈む
変化を求める太陽に対して寛大だ。
いまわたしは
みんなが予告していた灰色の味覚をあたえられた、
重々しくひんやりともする灰色。気にしないわ、
ロンドンうまれだから、と自慢した。これからは自慢しないだろう。
わたしの人生を掘り起こすだろう、訪問をためでなく、
生活するためここにきたのだから。
灰色は、鷹の近くに住むことの、
見えても見えなくても、山の巨大な存在に気付いていることの
代償だ。
